Hukanui children aren't just dreaming about the possibility of creating a more sustainable future for themselves; they're actually making it happen Hukanui Primary School in Hamilton is the first school in New Zealand to have an eco-build project designed and run by students. In 2005 work began on an eco-classroom project, which we've called the Living Room. It's been an exciting piece of work seeing drawings and dreams become real-life architectural drawings. With the "green light" given to build our eco-classroom by our Board of Trustees, we can now trade planning pens for hard hats and move into construction of the Living Room.

"I really like this project because no-one has done this in NZ. It has got so many opportunities.... I like what it stands for and it is for everybody. It’s a big project and it will help save energy. People might do what we are trying to do and it could be a big hit around the world. It’s great for the environment, a really special project."
